Headfest 2008

A big thank you to everyone who came along to Headfest 08, all of whom seemed to enjoy the day despite the constant rain…

We’ll post some pictures here shortly (and explain what it is for those who don’t know). In the meantime, John has a few pic’s and some very kind words over at North Atlantic Skyline. We finished off the last of the lamb with a backyard, hot rock pit-roast last weekend, and very good it was too. More on that shortly as well.

Eco-rigs and things

As an introduction to my joining Moore Group as a BER Assessor/Energy Consultant (amongst other roles, as is the ‘Moore Group Way’), I offer this interesting article via allaboutenergy.ie and timesonline.

Confirming my general feeling that while solar panels dotted on cottage roofs around Ireland will benefit individual homeowners and make the Green Party feel all warm and loved-up, they’re not about to do a whole lot for the ‘worldwide energy crisis’. Bigger thinking is needed…….For that we have the Japanese…

With nods to Historiann. No, not another post on aquaponics. Off to more wedding festivities etc.. in Norway. Declan, that is, not the entire company. Updates on aquaponics, more on beer, more on Eyre Square, whaling stations in Ireland, new finds, perhaps a little bit more on Maggie Ronayne, and pics from Headfest 08 when we return in a couple of weeks.

The picture above was obtained using Jazz Biscuits Creative Commons Image Search -a really useful resource pointed to by Damien Mulley (and best wishes to JB in whatever it is he/she’s up to next).

And we’re delighted to announce that we will be launching our new Building energy ratings (BER) services next week. Call the office on 091-765640 for a quotation. More details on that when we return, including handy energy saving tips etc..

All fished up..

Yesterday we got our shipment of 250 perch fingerlings for our ‘aquaponics research facility’/our backyard aquaponics tanks. The perch were supplied by a hatching facility in Co. Roscommon – Quay Water Fisheries – and all for free as well (and very gratefully accepted they were). The whole thing was arranged by Bórd Iascaigh Mhara.  So far, no floaters…

The perch were transported in water filled plastic bags topped up with a dose of pure oxygen. So now we can begin farming in earnest.

Weekend of weddings and festivities, so in the interim here’s the response from Margaret Gowen to the article published by Maggie Ronayne in the Irish Times recently and here’s the response from Maggie Ronayne and others

And oh dear, here we go, Creationism/Intelligent Design – coming to school in a Province near you… it was inevitable that if Youth Defense didn’t come up with it the DUP would sooner or later….
