To BE.R or not to BE.R, that is the question…….

Since the establishment of Moore Groups energy consulting section,  the jury is still out…… last month, we have been positively under-whelmed with clients wishing to avail of our expert Building Energy Services.

This largely seems to be not as a result of our anonymity in the field but rather as a result of a general lack of awareness of the impending deadline of 1st January 2009, by which all existing dwellings (for sale or rent) must have a valid B.E.R (Building Energy Rating) certificate.*

What the implications are of not having a certificate by this date remains shrouded in the mists of bureaucracy. We are awaiting clarification as we speak.

To blame this lack of awareness on the population at large would seem to be unfair as the powers-that-be have been remarkably quiet to date, as far as public information goes. We expect the nationwide advertising campaign (featuring cataclysmic weather events as a direct result of Seanie leaving the hall light on) to commence in earnest any day now. You read it here first.

So, ever the altruistic types here at Moore Group, we decided to do our bit for our readers by blogging a real-life actual BER assessment of a real-life actual member-of the-public’s dwelling house. We were too busy (or lazy) to go and find a real-life member of the public so we used Ger, from the office. It’s close enough.

The process and the results will follow here shortly and will tell you everything you need to know about obtaining that most elusive of documents. The B.E.R Cert.

In the process you will also learn a lot about Ger’s taste in interior décor, but that’s another story……
