‘You are probably aware that next week is Heritage Week and events are being run throughout the Country to celebrate. Of course Galway’s local heritage organisations have been very busy planning a variety of events around the county. Athenry Heritage Centre will Celebrate National Walled Towns Day with a great programme of activities from archery to crafts to puppet shows – something for everyone.

Guided Walk: Lakeview Golden Mile

Event Description: Lakeview Award Winning Golden Mile is rich in natural heritage and biodiversity. Among the features on the mile are ringforts, landlord house and out buildings, stone windmill, eel trap, crannog, roofed well and a seasonal turlough which is a haven for wildlife in both Summer and Winter. Spirit of Lough Derg: Biodiversity Talk And Walk & The Games We Used To Play

Medieval Meadowland in the Heart of the Village of Clarinbrige

Event Description: Unique Flora & Fauna Field Trip guided by well known wildlife expert and artist, Gordon D’Arcy. With no artificial fertilizers or pesticides to reduce its biodiversity, the landscape is little changed since the medieval occupants of its ringfort grazed & tilled the land. Join us for refreshments in the Village Hall following the walk.
