Minister for the EHLG, John Gormley has announced the establishment of a new strategic archaeological research fund (entitled the Irish National Strategic Archaeological Research, or INSTAR, Programme). The fund for 2008 will be of the order of €1 million and will be administered by the Heritage Council. Funding will continue beyond the current year subject to review of the efficacy and impact of the new Programme.
